Careers

Every young person should leave school prepared for life in modern Britain.

As an Academy we believe this is really important. We have a statutory and moral duty to provide all registered students from Years 8 to 13 with Careers Information, Advice and Guidance to inspire and motivate our students to fulfil their potential. Much of our work to support the Gatsby Benchmarks is undertaken in our Ethics lessons as well as through activities and events we arrange for different year groups.

Those who are uncertain or unrealistic about career ambitions are three times more likely to spend significant periods of time not in education, employment or training (NEET).

We believe young people want and need to be well informed when making subject and career decisions, therefore we aim:

  • To provide face-to-face advice and guidance to build confidence and motivation.
  • To explore options and provide support to help our students make choices and complete a plan for the future; including further learning, training and employment.
  • To provide information from independent and external sources.

Mrs Sykes is our Careers Advisor.

“I have worked for many years as a Careers Advisor in other schools and colleges in Sheffield and Rotherham and am very pleased to have the opportunity to help students here at Brinsworth Academy”.

Mrs Sykes is based in the careers office in the library every Tuesday and will happily welcome any student if they wish to call in to ask for advice and information about their career plans at break or lunchtime. Mrs Sykes also welcomes emails from students and parents/carers wishing to book an appointment: SSykes@bri.leap-mat.org.uk

At Brinsworth we work closely with Julie Hussey, Rotherham Careers & Enterprise Coordinator as well as the Careers & Enterprise Company as part of their Sheffield City Region work.

Our careers policy, including provider access policy, can be accessed here.
