Our Induction Process

We are committed at Brinsworth to ensure all our Y12 students feel welcome and well informed when embarking upon their Sixth Form education.
In order to achieve this, we begin communications with them at the start of their final GCSE year. It is crucial that students (with the support of their parents) make the right decisions for them, and therefore choose courses that will help them to secure the future they strive for.

All potential candidates and their families are invited to our Sixth Form open evening in October. This opportunity allows students to find out what we have to offer and meet current students and staff from all subject areas. (Please see our prospectus for course details).

Students will then be invited to taster sessions during our Post 16 week. This opportunity allows students to experience lessons in the courses they are interested. The students will also have the opportunity to use the Sixth Form facilities.

From December onwards we hold one to one interviews with all interested candidates. Each student will be given time to thoroughly discuss what they would like to study and where they see themselves in the future. Students will complete an options form as a result of this interview with the courses they wish to study.

Successful candidates are then invited to join the Sixth Form team in July at an induction morning. Students will find out which form they are in and who their form tutor is. There will be teambuilding and Higher Education activities with a strong sense of healthy competition between the forms. Students will be given the details of their final interview during this session which will take place in August.

In September the Sixth Form team work hard to ensure students feel welcomed and positive relationships are formed across the year group. As a result of this all year 12 students are invited to our Y12 teambuilding day. This is a full day of fun, adventurous activities such as rock climbing and obstacle courses. The day gives the students and staff an opportunity to get to know each other in a fun environment.

Students who are new to Brinsworth

Over recent years we have more and more students applying from other schools across both Sheffield and Rotherham.

The Sixth Form team dedicate their time to ensure all students receive one to one advice and guidance. It is important to us that students are on the right course and feel supported in their decisions. It is for these reasons that students from other schools receive the same experience as Brinsworth students. External candidates will be invited to an open day in February, where they will meet staff and students and be given a chance to find out what Brinsworth Sixth Form has to offer. Students will be interviewed on this day and will need to supply references and evidence of their predicted GCSE grades. If students are successful they will be invited to join us on our Sixth Form induction day in July.
